Join us for this special Friday Focus event spotlighting the Invest in Creative toolkit.
For this instalment of Friday Focus, we’ll be unpicking the role of a lead angel with serial angel investor and games industry expert, Nick Button Brown.
Nick will be joining UKBAA’s CEO Jenny Tooth OBE, to share his journey as a lead angel and what the role really entails. Nick will offer insights on why it is such an important role, and how angels can apply their industry knowledge and expertise to successfully lead a round.
We’ll also get to hear a bit about Nick’s portfolio and some of the high growth games teams he backs. We welcome questions from the audience, so be sure to come ready to ask Nick a few questions!
If you’d like to hear a bit more from Nick and his experience in the sector, register for the Invest in Creative toolkit and check him out in the Games module.

NICK BUTTON BROWN, ANGEL INVESTOR
I have worked in senior positions across the tech and games industry for more than 20 years including helping to grow and scale Improbable, a tech start-up that raised more than $600m, with backers including Andreessen & Horowitz, SoftBank and Netease. I’m currently Chair at Outright Games, a publisher of licensed games for children recently sold to a Private Equity company and building towards an IPO;
I founded The Games Angels, a collective of industry veterans investing in and supporting early stage gaming companies, and have Angel invested in Outright Games (16x return), Lightheart Entertainment (significant Series A round) and others such as Included Games, Flick Games and The Adventure is Real. In 2021 so far I have committed to 9 angel investments in Games and Technology of which I have been lead on 5 of them.
I am also Board Member at Coherence, a technology company supporting connected games, which raised a seed round supported by First Minute Capital; a Board Member and Mentor at Loveshark, a Mobile AR start-up growing from a seed round, and a Strategic Advisor at Payload Studios, developers of Terratech, who took a significant minority investment from Tencent. Before that I helped take Sensible Object, a voice-control focused company, through 3 equity rounds, leading to a trade sale to Niantic (makers of Pokemon Go).
I am on the Games Committee at BAFTA (having formerly been a Trustee on the BAFTA board), I am on the Innovation committee for the Recording Society (operators of the Grammys) and I am a founder trustee with OKRE in their work linking research and entertainment.
