Join us for an investor deep dive workshop uncovering the investment opportunities that exist within the UK’s Media Tech sector. Media Tech is the fusion of interactive content with digital technology, and accounts for £21.6bn GVA and £8.6bn in exports in the UK. From AR and VR, film and television, to digital platforms, animation and VFX, digital publishing and more, this deep dive will give investors insight into the opportunities within the sector.

Our panellists will assess where the opportunities are, what models typically look like, potential for exits, high growth success stories and much more.

The event will touch upon many of the highlights from the toolkit’s Media Tech module, so we encourage registrants to access the toolkit, both in advance and following the event!

VINAY SOLANKI, HEAD OF CHANNEL 4 VENTURES

Channel 4 is a leading UK public service broadcaster with a global reputation for ground-breaking content that attracts young & affluent viewers, a unique position versus most “Free-to-Air” broadcasters. Channel 4 Ventures is a breakout innovation activity that invests in start-up / growth phase companies using media inventory. Since joining in 2015 to establish the activity, Channel 4 Ventures has completed over 25 investments and has already seen 4 exits including the IPO’s of Pinterest, Readly and Eve Sleep plc. Channel 4 Ventures is now the leading “media for equity” investment operation in the UK, and has grown to an dedicated investment team of 4 professionals. Vinay is a digital expert, and a seasoned veteran in the media landscape, holding senior roles related to digital strategy / digital execution in leading global media companies for the past 15 years. Vinay has a degree in Law from University College London and holds an MBA from Imperial College London.

JENNY TOOTH OBE, CEO, UKBAA

Jenny is CEO of the UK Business Angels Association, the trade body for angel and early stage investing, representing over 15,000 investors around the UK. Jenny has over 20 years’ experience of facilitating SMEs access to investment, both in the UK and internationally. She ran her own consultancy on access to finance for SMEs, including spending nine years based in Brussels, working closely with the EC. In 2009, Jenny co-founded Angel Capital Group which incorporates London Business Angels, one of the most established and active angel networks in the UK. jenny is an angel investor and in her role at UKBAA she focuses on building the angel community around the UK, connecting investors to good deal flow and assisting entrepreneurs to attract investors. Jenny sits on the steering group for emerging technologies and innovations for Innovate UK and the advisory board for the London Co-Investment Fund. Jenny is an experienced speaker on angel investing and entrepreneurship both in the UK and internationally. She has an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Jenny was awarded an OBE in 2015 for services to small businesses.

HANNAH WILLIAMSON, INVESTMENT MANAGER, EDGE VC

As an Investment Manager, Hannah focuses on deal flow generation and execution, particularly focusing on retail tech and content businesses.

Prior to Edge, Hannah worked at the online retailer ASOS for 3 years, within the operational side of the business. Hannah holds a first-class honours degree in Fashion and Textile Management from Nottingham Trent University
